Our Musical Framework

Our Musical Framework

Introduction
Westbury Singers is an SATB choir of up to 50 members based in Westbury on Trym, Bristol.

Music
Our repertoire covers a wide range of genres, and there are three performances a year. Typically the musical year is as follows:-

The Autumn term is geared towards a Christmas concert of carols and seasonal pieces, though we may start to learn material for the following term as well. –

The Spring Term covers all or part of a major work, sometimes in collaboration with another choir, often leading towards a joint performance which may take the form of a church service. If there is no joint performance planned we might work towards a Spring concert of short pieces on a theme, or alternatively organise a workshop. –

The Summer concert is lighter in style, including songs from the shows and other popular music as well as folk music arrangements, and other suitable pieces.

We often invite other musicians to take part in order to give variety to the programme.

Choir members are welcome to submit ideas for music to the Musical Director, but ultimately the MD has the responsibility for choosing suitable music for the choir’s ability and range.   The MD also has to consider programming (ie how the concert will flow), which requires careful thought, and choice of music is dependent on this.
